New app Charitabl. addressing giving fatigue in the charity space

A new app is looking to disrupt the Australian charity space by providing Australians with a one-stop shop where they can donate to multiple charities with one easy swipe.

The new app Charitabl. is being hailed as the new ‘menulog’ for charities by providing donors access to over 39,000 charities – all listed on the The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) – where they can donate to with just a single swipe while having complete peace of mind with the knowledge that their money is going right where it needs to, without having to deal with clunky websites or multiple apps they will rarely use.

A recent study revealed that charitable giving remains strong in Australia with 82 per cent of Australians giving to charities or not-for-profit organisations. Charitabl.’s aim is to bring all the major charities together in one place to ensure no charity gets left behind in any crisis. The company reported that within the first three weeks of launching, the app had supported nearly 50 charities with over 150 app downloads.

Co-founder Mike Gore worked in the non-for-profit space for 15 years, most recently as CEO of Open Doors, before stepping out to create the app.

“Working in the NFP space, for years we were asked about building an app to centralise charity giving in Australia,” Gore said. “The on-the-ground demands of responding to crises meant that it was always just in the back of my mind. We built Charitabl. because we know how needed it is, and how much of a game changer the app would be for Australian charities.

“The 2020 bushfires showed us one thing: Australians are at their core generous people,” he added. “But we also saw a number of issues that led to more people becoming wary and distrusting of how money is spent or where it goes in times of crisis. We wanted to create something that made giving easier, but also helps build the trust back up for the charity sector.”

Co-founder Joce Goto also had a background in the NFP world before joining forces with Gore to create the cutting-edge app.

“Coming from the coal face of international emergency relief, it’s hard not to be affected by the real needs in the world,” Goto said. “I have seen first-hand the difference it makes when donations are readily available. We wanted to create something that would help people be more generous. It’s really that simple. Australians are givers and helpers by nature. Charitabl. makes it easier to give when its needed most and helps to build trust that money is going to the right place.”
